Maria Asencion Vela was born in Goliad, Texas on May 29, 1924 to Trinidad & Micaela (Hernandez) Aleman. Maria was raised in Beeville, Texas. She met her husband Luciano Vela and they were married on August 25, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas. They raised their eight children together and moved to Shafter California in 1968. Maria worked in agriculture as a laborer for Paramount Farms for 20 years. Maria enjoying spending her time devoted to her family and the Lord. She spent over 40 years volunteering at her church and always eager to assist in the needs of the Missionaries. She loved to sew and spent many hours making blankets for her loved ones. Maria was 89 years old when she passed away peacefully at home with her family surrounding her on November 3, 2013 in Shafter, California. Maria is survived by her sons, Paul Vela (Rosa), Fred Vela (Molly) and Adrian Rene Vela; daughters, Luciana Ramirez and Gracie Luna (Javier); daughter-in- law, Rosie Vela; 25 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren; and 1 great great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Luciano Vela; her parents, Trinidad Sr. and Micaela Aleman; her sons, Jessie & Jose Vela; her daughter, Sulema Vela; brothers, Pedro Aleman, Trino Aleman, Benito Aleman, Manuel Aleman, and Agustin Aleman; sisters, Lina Perez, Josefa Cortez, and Esmeralda Tapia. Visitation with the family was held on Wednesday November 6, 2013 at 7pm at La Rosa de Saron Church. The Funeral service was held at La Rosa de Saron Church on Thursday November 7, 2013 at 10am.
