Maria Lopez Torres was born December 14, 1927 to Cleotilda (Romo) and Cleofas Lopez in Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco Mexico; she was one of seven children. Maria married Rafael Torres in June of 1944 and they moved to Arvin in 1956. Maria worked in agriculture for 30 years many of those years for the Elsie Marrufo's crew where she built strong friendships with many of her co-workers. Maria is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rafael Torres of Arvin; son Arturo Torres and wife, Carrie and their daughter, Alexandra, all of Lubbock, Texas. Holy Rosary will be recited Monday, June 29, at 6pm at Arvin Funeral Home for Maria Lopez Torres, age 81, o Arvin who passed away June 26, 2009 in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said Tuesday, June 30, at 10am at St. Thomas Church. Fr. Jorge will officiate the service and interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District, Arvin. Visitation will be held Monday, June 29 from 4pm – 8pm at Arvin Funeral Home.
