Tomasa was born in Cerritos, Mexico on September 22, 1917 and passed from this life on September 24, 2009 in Shafter, California. When very young, she moved with her family to Texas and in 1958 she and her husband Jesus with their children moved to the Buttonwillow-Shafter area. Tomasa was a wonderful and caring woman. She enjoyed the simple things in life, spending time with family, sewing and tending to her garden of flowers and vegetables. She will be missed by all, but leaves beautiful memories to be cherished. She was preceded in death by: her husband Jesus, her sisters Victoria Zamarripa, Felicita Rocha and brother Demetrio Zamarripa. She is survived by her children Mary Torres, Frank and wife Kathy Torres, Elizabeth and husband Jim Goodman, Jesse and wife Sheila Torres, Baldemar "KC" and wife Janet Torres, Maria Torres and Michael Davis, Nella Torres, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Christina Luera and Gertrudes Garza of Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Mass of the Resurrection will take place for Maria "Tomasa" Torres, age 92 of Shafter, at 10 AM, Thursday October 1 at St. Therese's Church, 300 W Lerdo Hwy., Shafter, Father Ralph Balluomini will officiate, interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Wednesday, September 30 at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Recitation of the Rosary to begin at 6PM.
