Maria Barrera passed away on August 20, 2012 in Delano, California. Maria was born in Las Colonias, Michoacan, Mexico on April 7, 1965 to Antonio and Magdalena Arevalo. Maria has made Wasco her home for the last 11 years. Maria, better known as "Mama Cuy" or "Maricruz", was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and Christian. She was also very hardworking; spending 30 years of her life working as a field laborer. The last seven years were worked in Wasco for Jackson Perkins until they closed. Maria served the Lord at St. John's Catholic Church for the last five years as a member of the choir group. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. There is no doubt that she is now singing more beautifully than ever in Heaven. Her strong faith and love for her family helped in guiding her husband and children In the path of God. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Maria's family would like to thank everyone for their assistance, support, and prayers during her illness and after her passing. Maria is preceded in death by her Father Antonio Arevalo. Maria is survived by her husband, Jesus Barrera; Son, Daniel Barrera; Son, Jesus Antonio Barrera; Son, Alejandro Barrera; Son, Salvador Barrera; daughter, Araceli Barrera 7 grandchildren and 1 on the way. A special evening visitation was held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church where the prayer of the Holy Rosary was recited and accompanied by the choir group she was a member of and also the Spanish Group of Adoration honored Maria's life and service with special prayers. Maria's impact on so many people during her life was evident in the turnout that evening that filled the pews of the church. Mass of the Christian Burial was held the following morning, Friday August 24, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church. Maria was laid to rest on Monday, August 27, 2012 in Bocaneo San Pedro, Michoacan, Mexico.
