Obituary

Maria Isabel Rodgriuez, 97, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her home, in Ogden Utah. She was born November 5, 1923 in Tabasco, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Enrique Medrano and Ramona Vera. In 1939, Maria married the love of her life Tomas Rodriguez. She was a homemaker, but in the 1950's she purchased a small grain mill. She owned the only one in miles. In those days it was a modern convenience, that wasn't easy to come by. Many women would come from miles away to have corn milled for masa. Maria and Tomas immigrated to the Lamont, California in, 1972 with 4 of their 12 children. They soon joined their friend, Cesar Chavez and became active members of the United Farm Workers Union (UFW) . They striked for the rights of farm workers and they traveled to many states, including Georgia and Florida. Where they educated people on the conditions of migrant workers. The UFW where a non violent group that was often met with violence. This didn't stop Maria and her family, they continued to be a part of this group, that went down in history and continue to stand up for human rights. Maria is survived by her children, Esperanza, Benito, Martha Alicia, David, Enrique and Luis, 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tomas, her children Raymundo, Tomas, Armando, Victor Manuel, Amalia, and Aida Aracelie. The familiy would like to thank Lindquist Mortuaries for their help in arranging the transfer to California. The family also would like to thank Peters Funeral Home for there services. Services will be held in Arvin, California. The viewing will be held on Sunday, July 25th, 2021 at 201 S Hill St, Arvin, CA 93203, 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Church service will be held at St. Thomas on Monday July 26th 2021, at 10:00 A.M. followed by the burial. These services will be under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Arvin California. Care in Utah was provided through Lindquest , Ogden Mortuary.
