Maria Vigil Guevara was born July 15, 1930 in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico to Roberto and Petra Vigil. Maria married Marcello Guevara April 4, 1948 in Mexico. The family moved to Texas in 1953, lived in Idaho for a short time then moved to Arizona. They finally settled in Wasco in 1960. Maria worked for Jackson and Perkins Rose Growers and for Armstrong Nursery. Maria was an excellent cook and the family will remember her hand-made tortilla and her steak picado. She raised birds, parakeets, being her favorite. Maria also enjoyed gardening in her yard and grew many varieties of roses and passed on her green thumb to her children. Maria was a member of St. John's and the Guadalupanos Society in her younger years. Maria was dearly loved by her family will be missed by her loving husband of 59 years, Marcello Guevara of Wasco; sons, James Guevara of Wasco, Gustavo Guevara of Gilroy, Johnny Guevara of San Jose, Michael Guevara, Jesse Guevara and his wife Katherine, all of Bakersfield; daughters, Carrie Trevino and husband Fernando, Mary Aguilera and husband Vincent, all of Bakersfield and Anna Bernal and husband Esteban of Wasco; brother, Roberto Vigil; sister, Paula Vigil, both of Mexico; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grand children and many other loving family members. Maria was preceded in death by her daughter, Alicia Guevara; parents and 2 sisters, Gregoria and Hilda. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held Monday, February 4 at 6pm at St. John's Church. Mass of the Christian Burial was said Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at 10am at St. John's Church. Fr. John Fluetsch officiated the service and interment followed at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation was held Monday, February 4 from 2pm to 5pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
