Mary Banda Fuentes passed suddenly on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Mary was born to Teodoso and Juanita Banda Fuentes in Hondo, Texas. Her parents brought her and her siblings to Bakersfield, CA in the late 1940's. She was a strong, cheerful, independent woman who loved to go bowling and travel to Las Vegas with her friends. She was greatly loved and our memories of her will be cherished forever. She was employed with Teneco West for 22 years as a machine operator/ forklift driver. She then began employment with the K.C Superintendent of Schools as a Teachers Aid assisting the disabled children for 5 years, after which she retired. Maria is preceded in death by her mother, Juanita and father, Teodoso Fuentes, her daughter, Peggy V. Martinez, son, Jessie Jacquinde and her siblings; Juan, Virginia, Estefanita and Ramulo Fuentes Maria is survived by her sisters; Mary Soto, children; Irene Varela, David Varela, and Richard Jacquinde, grandchildren; Lina, Abel, Micheal, Juanita, Stefanie, Edward, Sara, Daniel, Patricia, David, Esteban and Christopher. She is also survived by her 31 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and many more nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family members. She will also be remembered by her dearest friend Teresa Zamora. Services for Maria will be held at Hopson-Anspach family Mortuary, 620 Oregon 7 Street; beginning with a viewing from 2-8pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Abel Zorrilla, Daniel Castro, Stephen Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Fernando Gaucin, and Jose Vargas. Alternate will be Edward V. Leos.
