Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt Maria Garcia Duran passed away on May 19, 2011, early morning in Van Nuys, California. Maria was born in Donna, Texas on December 28, 1949; one of 9 children born to Belen (Garza) and Gonzalo Garcia. Maria came to Kern County via Lost Hills, Lamont and made Wasco her hometown, where she finished raising her family. Any opportunity that came by for a casino trip, she was the first to confirm her seat; other pass times included going out for coffee, visiting family, watching novellas on the Spanish television station and keeping in touch almost daily with her sisters. Maria Garcia Duran was preceded in death by her brother Hector "Tito" Garza (2009); special Chihuahua canines Lucy and Brownie, she is survived by her sons, Albert, Robert Jr., and Richard Duran; daughters Beatrice Duran and Roberta Vega; ex-husband and close friend Robert Duran Sr.; brother Rudy Garcia; sisters Tina Valenzuela, Candy Hernandez, Dora Hernandez, Blanca Cuevas and Minerva Perez; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a large extended family, many friends and acquaintances that will miss her dearly. A 1pm graveside service will be held for Maria Garcia Duran, age 61, of Wasco, on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on the same day from 9am to 12pm at Peters Funeral Home.
