IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Frances
Strebeck
October 13, 1938 – August 28, 2021
Margaret "Frances" Strebeck, age 82, joined the Lord in heaven on Saturday, August 28, 2021, in Bakersfield, California. Frances was born October 13, 1938, in Calaverites, California, to Wayne and Margaret Gladys Rousey. She was the oldest of two daughters. She is survived by her much-loved sister, Kathleen "Mike" Zancanella and niece Terry McBride, Kathleen and many other Nieces and Nephews. She married Bill Howard in 1955 and had three daughters. The family moved to Bakersfield 1959. She leaves behind her children; Kathleen "Tootie" Breland and her husband David; Melinda "Sissy" Poff and her husband Bob; Tammy "Peanut" Anderson and her husband Michael. She loved Country Music and in the 1970's she visited local taverns to enjoy the live music. She met her future husband, Virgil Strebeck, while he was a bouncer at The Lucky Spot, home of the Bakersfield Sound. They married May 24, 1975, at their home in Hilltop, California. They went on to have many grandchildren, including Wayne (Wendy) Dotson, Jacky (Letha) Wood, Tambra (Jackie) Wood, Michael (Carmen) Wood, Mandy (James) Shelton, Cindy (Roger) Perry, Darrell (Mandy) Jackson and Mallorie Martin. With dozens more that called her Grandma Fran. She had 47 great-grandchildren as well as 8 great-great grandchildren and 3 on the way. One of the treasured times the whole family was able to get together was Grandma's Christmas Eve Dinner. A tradition that started when her daughters were young. As her family grew it became more difficult, but everyone knew how important it was to her and tried their best to attend. She had an impeccable work ethic bar none! Which could be a blessing and a curse. An ethic she passed on to all her children. She taught them the value of hard work and perseverance, and how to write checks and balance a check book. Frances became a housekeeper at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in 1961 where she met Dr. May and Dr. Admiral. They encouraged her to become a medical assistant; she did, and she began working in Labor and Delivery. It quickly became her passion. Dr. Hubbell invited her to go with him to begin San Dimas Medical Group in 1973. She agreed! She worked as an OB/GYN certified medical assistant until she returned to Dr. Hubbell and retired in 2001. There is no doubt that many mothers remember Frances as a kind and caring medical assistant. It was well known that her favorite past time, besides watching her shows, was watching her grandchildren race at Bakersfield Speedway. She dearly loved all her grandchildren and showed them all in different ways. She was always excited for updates and eager to share good news with her family. Frances was a sister, mother, aunt, wife, grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma. Above all she was a strong tenacious woman. She was not a complicated woman and didn't want much, except what was best for her family. Mom, thank you for bringing us into the world. Thank you for raising three very strong daughters and paving the way for an even stronger family. Most of all thank you for who you were, we will never forget you. Preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Virgil Homer Strebeck; nephew Elliott Bissell; Son-in-law Arnold "Jack" Wood; fur-baby Dixie. Special thanks to Jacky, Letha, Melinda and Kathy for caring for her in the end. Service for Margaret will be at Bakersfield National Cemetery October 13th 2021 at 2:00 pm
