Margaret B. Smith was born February 26, 1922 in Le Flore County, Oklahoma to Max and Essie (Lindsey) Bell. She came to California at an early age and has been a resident of Shafter since 1945. Margaret married Alfred J. Smith 1941. They owned Smitty's Garage until Alfred's retirement in 1985. Margaret worked for many years as a secretary for Jacobsen Farms. Margaret was a charter member of the Shafter Lady Lions and former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and a current member of the Shafter Woman's Club. Margaret was preceded in death by her only daughter, Phyllis who passed away in 1960 at the age of 18 years old; and by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Alfred of Shafter. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 31 at 9am for Margaret B. Smith, age 85, resident of Shafter who passed away July 28 at home. Pastor Mike Kotrla of the Congregational Church of Shafter will officiate and interment will follow. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, July 30 from 3pm to 8pm.
