A graveside service was conducted by Peters Funeral Home for Manuel Lucero, age 78, on Sunday, October 1, 2006, at 10am, at Shafter Memorial Park. Reverend David Whitbey of the New Covenant Life Church of God of Shafter officiated at the service. Manuel was born in Hollister, California, to Manuel Sr. and Avelina Lucero on March 12, 1928. He joined the US Army in 1946, and served in WWII. He married Betty Kirk on September 5, 1959, in Carson City, NV, and the couple came to Shafter in 1977. Manuel was employed as a house mover for over 20 years, with Kelly Brothers Housemovers. Manuel was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Renee Rush, and sister, Frances Ayala. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lucero; sons, Terry Rush of Bakersfield, Bobby and wife, Donna Lucero of Apple Valley, David and wife, Sherry Lucero of Shafter, Bill and wife, Sheila Lucero of Woodlake, Tom and wife, Mary Lucero of Shafter, Chuck Lucero of Shafter; sister, Kathy Wilson and husband, Danny of Bakersfield; 34 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
