Lydia Hilda Streyle Mettler was born in Menno, South Dakota on June 9, 1916 to Jacob and Christina Streyle. She was baptized as an infant on Aug 20, 1916 in the Zion Reformed Church in Menno by Rev. Buetell. She was confirmed by Wm. Huenemann in June 1930. Lydia came to California to help her sister with a new baby, met her future husband here and then was married to Raymond J. Mettler May 12, 1941. They were members of the Shafter Ebenezer Reformed Church where they attended regularly. Lydia was also the church organist there for many years. Raymond and Lydia made their home on a farm outside of Bakersfield. After Raymond passed away in 1979 she moved into Bakersfield. Lydia leaves behind one sister, Viella Knodel, daughter, Alice Oden, three sons, Lewis, Irvin and Neal Mettler. She has six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, two sisters, four brothers and two granddaughters. Memorial services will be Thursday Nov. 5th at 11:00 am in the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Shafter. Any donations in memory may be made to Ebenezer Reformed Church.
