Luther "Boots" Hampton was born January 31, 1926 in Soper, Oklahoma, to James Lee Hampton and Minnie Bell Dickson. Boots and his family moved from Oklahoma to New Mexico, and finally to Arizona where he completed the eighth grade. During the war, Boots worked as a bookkeeper in an Arizona alfalfa mill. Eventually Boots and his brother Clarence came to Wasco from Arizona and took jobs with Kern County Land Company. Over the years he worked for various ag businesses in the area, including Howard Hay Company. His favorite pastime was fishing, and he spent many happy hours on the lake with family and friends. He passed away peacefully on August 26, 2013. He is survived by his sister, Doris Rhodes and husband Glenn; step-son, Steve Balentine and wife Anna; and grand-daughter, Christie Balentine. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife o f 38 years, Alma; two brothers, Clarence and Smokey Hampton; step-son, Les Balentine; and grand-daughter, Buffy Balentine. A graveside service was held August 30, at 9:30am at Shafter Cemetery; Pastor Joey Cardamone officiated.
