Louise Nelson Hyer of Shafter, California died peacefully in her sleep on December 25, 2011. She was diagnosed with cancer only a short two weeks ago. She was born May 27, 1930 in Richmond, Utah to Parley LeRoi and Margaret Etna Nelson. She grew up in South Dakota where she attended a one-room school through the seventh grade. She also graduated from high school in South Dakota. She attended Utah State in Logan, Utah and graduated with a degree in Secondary Education. She taught one year in Soda Springs, Idaho. She married Angus Hillyard Hyer in Logan on August 25, 1952. They lived in Logan, Utah, Sacaton, Arizona, and Ames, Iowa before moving to Shafter, California in 1960 where she lived until her death. They were blessed with four sons and she enjoyed being a homemaker. After the death of her husband, she went to work in the Library/Resource Center for the Richland School District in Shafter. Upon her retirement she volunteered her time at the school helping to mentor young students. She was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her sons Marlowe (Joseph) Hyer of San Francisco, CA, Lon (Lori) Hyer of Smithfield, UT, Kevin (Lauri) Hyer of North Salt Lake, UT, Blake (Niki) Hyer of Valencia, CA; eight grandchildren; her brother K. LeRoi (Ina) Nelson of St. George, UT and her sister Narene (Sam) Ireland of Martin, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Angus, and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 30 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wasco, CA, 2309 9th Pl. There will be a viewing on Thursday, December 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, 844 E. Lerdo Hwy and preceding the funeral from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the church in Wasco. Interment will be in the Shafter Cemetery next to her husband, the love of her life. In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
