Obituary

Louise was born January 6, 1925 in Alameda, California to Edward and Ada Christine Cummings. She went home to heaven on March 14, 2011 in Shafter, California. Louise is survived by son David Bellows and wife Cheryl of Lynchburg VA, daughter Donna Powell and husband Phillip of Bakersfield, daughter Susie Ogle and husband Marty of Shafter. She is also survived by grandchildren Tonya Maynard and husband Mike, David Bellows and wife Christine, Joy Wright and husband Heath, Kimberley Bellows, Sarah Powell, Mark Powell, Lesley Harrison and husband Graham, and Lauren Ogle. She is survived by her great grandchildren Ashlee Whitworth and husband Caleb, Johann Freeman and Justin Bellows. Her surviving siblings are Charles and Ramona Cummings, William and Shirley Cummings, Carol Comstock, Robert and Alda Cummings, and Lois Norberg. Preceding her in death were husband Donald Bellows; sons, Donald Jr. and Baby Boy; grandsons Donny Bellows and Kevin Ogle; and sister Virginia Dodd. Louise had made her home in Shafter for sixty years. She and Don were married in June of 1943 and they came to Shafter in 1951. He was an auto mechanic who was killed on the job in 1966 leaving Louise with Donna and Susie. David had joined the Air Force, where he served for twenty years. Louise was active in American Legion Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Richland PTA, and was an Election Board officer for many years, often providing her garage as a polling place. She worked many years in the nursery and as a deaconess at Valley Bible Church in Shafter where she was a faithful member. Louise played Canasta almost every Monday night with a group of ladies for over thirty years. She gave over seven gallons of blood in her lifetime and was so disappointed when she had to stop. She and her siblings would reunite every fall in Lake Tahoe or Reno. She looked forward to that all year. She loved to read, play Canasta with the girls, sing old hymns with her church family, and watch her quiz shows. She was employed at the Shafter Convalescent Hospital as a cook for eighteen years from 1971 to 1989. After her retirement she cared for her grandchildren. Louise never drove a car and could be seen walking all over Shafter for many years. First holding her little girl's hand and years later, pushing the girl's babies in a stroller. Louise was a gentle spirit who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She saw the best in everything and never had a complaint. There will be a memorial service on Friday March 25, 2011 at 11:00am at Valley Bible Church, 350 Pine Street in Shafter, CA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Valley Bible Church.
