Obituary

Louie T. Carpenter was born on July 25, 1920 in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Fannie (Corsbie) and Marcus Carpenter. Louie lived his childhood in Paul Valley, Oklahoma and move to southern California as a young man. He drove a truck, worked in the shipyard in Long Beach and the Civilian Conservation Corps. When called upon, he served our country during World War II in the US Navy from September 8, 1943 to December 17, 1945 earning 2 bronze stars in the Philippine Liberation. Louie married Anne Nielson May 12, 1946 in Newell, Iowa and they moved to Wasco California in 1958. Louie worked as a mechanic and shop foreman for Armstrong Nurseries and he specialized in building equipment trailers. After retirement from Armstrong, he began a lawnmower repair business with Own Priest which he enjoyed for many years. Louie belonged to the American Legion and Odd Fellows. Louie Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ann Carpenter in 2001. He is survived by his only daughter Jan Wheeler of Bakersfield; and one brother Marcus (Art) Carpenter of Carnegie, Oklahoma; and his constant companion Brownie, his pet dog. Graveside Military Rites were held at Wasco Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11am for Louie T. Carpenter, age 90, of Wasco, who passed away September 9, 2010 in Bakersfield and interment followed at Wasco Memorial Park. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 2pm at Peters Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation was held at Peters Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 2-8 pm.
