Lorenzo Velarde was born May 10, 1914 in Chihuahua, Mexico. When Lorenzo first came to California, he lived in Mettler, but had been a resident of Lamont for the last 46 years. Lorenzo was a hard worker and before retirement worked in agriculture for over 30 years. He married Maria Garcia and she preceded him in death in 1988. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, daughter, Nellie and sons, Julian and Juan. Lorenzo was dearly loved and will be missed by his family, including 3 sons, Fernando Velarde of Lamont, Lupe Velarde & wife Irma of Lamont, Johnny Velarde and wife Denise of Texas; daughter, Manuela "Nellie" Martinez and husband Jesus of Lamont; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, August 30 at 7pm at St. Augustine's Church, Lamont for Lorenzo Velarde, age 93, of Lamont who passed away August 24 in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said, Friday, August 31, at 10am. Fr. John Schmoll will officiate the services and interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Bakersfield. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29 from 2pm to 8pm and Thursday, August 30 from 2pm to 6pm at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary, Lamont.
