Family and friends mourn the passing of Lonnie "Dean" Forney. Dean was born August 4, 1928 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Adrian and Ina (Humrick) Forney, and passed away on August 4, 2009 in Bakersfield, California at age 81. Dean attended Pawnee City Elementary and High Schools and The University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 39 years, and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 through 1948, stationed in Korea. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Japan Occupation Medal. As a young man, Dean's employment with Santa Fe brought him to Wasco, California there; on July 14, 1954 he married his wife of 55 years, Lila Gray. His hobbies were wine tasting, making homemade ice cream and anything to do with railroads. Dean especially enjoyed people, and was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in law, Dale Marshall He is survived by his wife, Lila, and four sons and three daughters-in-law. Gary and wife Carol of Roseville, California, Rodney of Oxnard, California,, Kevin and wife Lori of Bakersfield, California, and Randall and wife Natalie of Saugus, California, two sisters, Ruth Marshall of Pawnee City Nebraska and Opal Thiemann and husband Edgar, of Versailles, Missouri, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends who love him and will miss him very much. Viewings will be on Sunday and Monday, August 9th and 10th from 2 to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Wasco. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at 10am also at Peters Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11:30am.
