Obituary

Lloyd Bowman went to heaven on February 19, 2022. He was born on the family farm in McFarland, CA to Samuel and Maude Bowman, the youngest of 5 children. His family had relocated to McFarland from the Inglewood area in the early 1900s to homestead previously unfarmed land. They moved to McFarland to join other relatives and Church of the Brethren members. He worked on the family farm helping his father until he began farming independently. He lived all his life in McFarland attending McFarland schools. During World War II, Lloyd served in Civilian Public Service fighting forest fires near Belden, CA and working in a clothing distribution center in Modesto, CA. It was there that he met Shirley Eikenberry. They married in May 1947 and built their new home in McFarland, CA where Lloyd began farming. Over the years he farmed alfalfa, corn, potatoes, cotton and ended growing exclusively almonds. They lived in the same home for 74 years. Lloyd had many interests. He obtained a private pilot license, enjoyed woodworking, fast pitch baseball, and traveled many thousands of miles in his RV with Shirley. He was a member of the McFarland Church of the Brethren where he accepted Jesus early in his life. He served his Savior well and was always available to help a friend in need. Lloyd loved his family and was a devoted father. Surviving family members include: wife Shirley Bowman; sons Mark (Sondra) of McFarland and Dwight (Cindy) of Bakersfield; daughters Lynn Onsum (David) and Paula Levins (Anthony) of Bakersfield, and honorary daughter Tamara Van Dam of Fresno; Grandchildren Aimee Gonzalez, Cory Bowman, Carrie Kumpel, Kyle Bowman, Scott Onsum, Andrew and Aaron Levins; and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Florencio Pangilinan for many years of care and the staff of Magnolia Place Assisted Living in Bakersfield who provided compassionate care above and beyond the call of duty during Lloyd's residence there. Also, thanks to the staff of Hoffman Hospice for their care during Dad's final days. Services will be held on Saturday, February 26th. Graveside services will be at 11:00am at North Kern Cemetery in Delano and a Memorial Service at 12:00pm at the Church of the Living Savior in McFarland, CA. A lunch reception will follow. All who loved Lloyd are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the ministries of the Church of the Living Savior or the Mission at Kern County.
