IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lindsey
Post
September 16, 1930 – August 27, 2020
Lindsay Post, 89, of Lamont, CA, passed away on August 27, 2020 after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Lindsay was born on September 16, 1930, in Bakersfield, California to Fred Mills and Georgia (Fluker) Mills. His family moved to Lamont around 1938. They had a small ranch with goats, chickens and cows. He enjoyed the ranch life and especially his horse named Tony. He learned to fish and hunt from his father. He was always a hard worker. At 14 he drove his mother's car to deliver eggs for the ranch. He was quite the entrepreneur. At 16 he had a motor scooter with an icebox and sold ice cream around Lamont. At 17 he took over his Dads drive-in called Nick's on the corner of Main Street and Hall Road. In 1946 he met Geraldine Hughes and they got married in 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to Pine Flats to help his brother Milton with his lodge. They also took care of their infant nephew Jimmy Post. In late 1948 he went to work for Carnation Creamery on Union Avenue in Bakersfield. He retired as the Plant Manager in 1993 after 45 years. He was not only a leader to the people who worked for him, he was also their friend. He won many gold medal awards from the California State Fairs for his cottage cheese. In 1950 he had his first son, Gary L. Post. In 1952 he had his first daughter, Diana G. (Post) Blair. Lindsey always had a passion for speed with motorcycles, cars and boats. He started drag racing in the 50ths at Gardner Field/Taft, Saugus/Newhall and Formosa. One particular race he used Jim Banks motor and put it in his 1934 Ford hotrod. They had a problem putting it together because Gary (age 6) hid some of the parts. He feared they weren't going to take him to the race. He continued to race with his brother-in-law, Allen Barrett. They won many races and took the National Championship in Phoenix in 1958. He gave up racing to become more focused on his family and started building boats. He built his first boat with Allen and put one of the race car motors in it. It was a fast boat but it burned at Lake Ming. The second boat was Splish Splash. It was a Howard flat bottom with a 392 blown hemi. The family enjoyed many years of water skiing and being part of the Kern County Boat and Ski Club. He was the commodore for many years and lead the ski club in many events to include ski racing, boat racing and dancing events. He always loved to teach someone how to ski and did so for so many people/kids. He was a patient teacher and enjoyed helping anyone who needed a hand. His second boat was a day cruiser, Splish Splash II. The need for speed was not as strong as the need for fun. He wanted a boat that could hold more people but still pull a skier out of water. Splish Splash II had no problems with being loaded with 6 or more people and still pulling up a skier. After retiring in 1993 Lindsey spent his time traveling with Geraldine in their motorhome. They took many family vacations and was often accompanied by David, Diana and Melissa. The memories made vacationing and traveling around together are those that will be cherished forever. They also enjoyed many trips with their camper club from Bakersfield. They often went Salmon fishing with Al/Sandy and then Bud in Trinidad. Then there is the 'gang' as it used to be called. Mostly people from Lamont. They rented a cabin every year at Bass Lake and always had too much fun. Lindsey is survived by his wife, Geraldine Post, son Gary (Debbie) Post of Bakersfield, daughter Diana (David) Blair of Larkspur, CO, granddaughters Deana Sargeant and Melissa Campbell, 6 Great Grandsons and 1 Great Granddaughter, 7 Great Great Grandchildren.
