Obituary

Lina Moreno was born June 21, 1930 in Hidalgo, Texas to Jesus and Felipa (Munoz) Rodriquez. Lina began working in the fields at a very young age to help support the family. She married Demetrio Moreno February 25, 1949 and they moved to California and settled in Shafter to raise their family. Lina continued to work in agriculture and at the rose packing houses until her retirement. Lina loved to embroider and enjoyed other needle crafts as well. She also collected chickens and roosters. The most important thing to Lina was having her family at her home enjoying barbeque or the holiday meals. Her tamales, hand-made tortillas and menudo were the family favorites. She was a member of the Rosa de Saron Church since 1980 serving her church for 28 years. Lina is survived by her sons, Paul, Roy, Demetrio and Ramon; daughters, Diane Reyna, Rosemary Moreno and Becky Garcia; brothers, Omar, Willie, Johnny and Alfredo; sisters, Natividad Esqueda, Gregoria Villanueva and Gloria Rodriquez; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Demetrio in 2006, daughter Juanita in 2007 and son, Alfredo in 2002; her parents, brothers, Albert, Frank and Rey; and sister, Alicia. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, at 10am at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter for Lina Moreno, age 77, of Shafter who passed away June 2, in Bakersfield. Pastor Epifanio Bernal of the Rosa de Saron Church will officiate and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5 from 4pm – 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
