Our Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Sister Lilly Torres Rodriguez was called home to our Lord and Savior on the 15th of May 2010. Lilly was born on December 22, 1929 in Winters, Texas. She was the fifth of seven children born to Maximo and Socorro Torres. Lilly grew up in Del Rio, Texas then moved with her family to Casa Grande, Arizona, Washington, and eventually settling in Shafter, California where she met and married Trinidad Escalante Rodriguez. Lilly married in 1949 and had nine children. Reynaldo, Madeline, Leticia, Trinidad, Amanda, Alfred David, Phillip, George, and Benjamin. Lilly was well known for her quilt making ability and made it a family tradition of making a quilt for everyone of her sons, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. "Granny" as she was known to her grandchildren sewed each quilt by hand making each quilt individually beautiful for each member of her family. Lilly was also well known for her cooking as many family members and friends who visited her were treated to one of "moms" famous dishes many of which were made with a pinch here of this and a pinch here of that. Her children hope to one day match her wonderful touch. Lilly passed away at her home in the evening of May 15th surrounded by her loving family. Lilly was preceded in death by her loving daughter Leticia, father Maximo, mother Socorro, and son Alfred David. Lilly is survived by her son Reynaldo with wife Marsha, daughter Madeline Nieto, son Trinidad with wife Margie, daughter Amanda Plaza-Soliz, son Phillip, son George with wife Lisa, and son Benjamin with wife Kinelle. By her 22 Grandchildren, Garret Ullal, Candace Ullal, Christine Nieto, Hector Soliz with wife Beatrice, Vanessa Bryant with husband Gary, Erica Plaza with fiancé' Vic Comiani, Leticia Rodriguez, Cindy Soliz, Phyllis Rodriguez-Pool with husband Justin, Debra Rodriguez, Jobe Rodriguez and Veronica, Zacharia Rodriguez with wife Sheawna, Rosanna Rodriguez, Stephanie Rodriguez and Chris Johnson, Michael Rodriguez, Marki Middleton, and Benjamin Rodriguez Jr. She is survived by her 11 Great-grandchildren, Kayla Bryant, Blake Bryant, Tristin Bryant, Logan Bryant, Hector Soliz Jr., Fabian Soliz, Serena Soliz, Jonathan Chang, Isaih Rodriguez, Caleb Rodriguez, and a soon to arrive baby girl. Lilly is survived by her sisters, Margarita "Magge" Perez, Concepcion "Concha" Alejandro, and Maria Apodaca of Casa Grande, Arizona. Paulina Rocha of San Jose and Josefa "Josie" Flores of Santa Clara, California, by her brother Rodolfo "Rudy" Torres of San Diego, California. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 9 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church, 900 H Street in Bakersfield with graveside to follow a the Shafter Cemetery. Viewing will be at Peters Funeral Home, 844 E. Lerdo Hwy in Shafter beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18th with the Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers "Mom" wished for donations to be made to any Catholic Church.
