Lilly Fern Mears Garland left this earth to be with her Lord on December 16, 2013 at the age of 81; she was born March 21, 1932 in Blanchard, Oklahoma to Chas. A. & Lessie Z. Taylor Mears and lived in Oklahoma till the age of 6. The family moved to Wasco, California on January 1939. They moved to Watsonville for a couple of years, came back to Wasco in 1942 and lived in Wasco until 1955. Lilly attended local schools and graduated from Wasco Union High School with the Class of 1950. While at Wasco High, Lilly was active in many different clubs and played "Penelope" in "You Can't Take It With You", the Junior Play of 1949. She went on to attend Business College in Fresno, CA. She married her high school friend and soul mate James Finis Garland on January 24, 1953. In 1955 they moved to Tehachapi and lived there until 1987 from there they moved to Santa Maria. She lived in Santa Maria until her Finis's demise in 2010 when she moved Bakersfield. Lilly worked in Tehachapi at various businesses including banks, medical offices, and the hospital, as a bookkeeper. She also worked as a waitress; she was a jack of all trades and master of none. She enjoyed crafts, painting, knitting and crochet. Lily was a member of Charter Tehachapi Gallery of Arts 1979, Bunco groups, Chit Chat Club. She was a member of TOPS 1987 to 2011; Charter member of TOPS, California 2110 and Santa Maria 1990-2011. Lilly will be missed greatly by grandson, Rodney Garland and wife Kristy of Bakersfield; great grandchildren, Chyann and Joshua Garland; three self-adopted daughters, Joyce Wilson, Sandee Sorenson, Vick Yaeck; ex-daughter-in-law, Kathe and husband James Hallman and so many other relatives and special friends. Lilly Ferne Garland was preceded in death by her parents, Chas and Lessie Mears; husband and soul mate of 57 years, Finis Garland; three sons, Randy, Rodney, Baby Boy. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 19 at 1pm at Wasco Memorial Park for Lilly Ferne Garland, age 81, of Bakersfield who passed away December 16, 2013 at her home in Bakersfield. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18 from 4pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
