Leslie Balentine was born February 11, 1952 in Wasco, California to James and Alma Balentine. He attended Wasco schools and graduated from Wasco High in 1970. Shortly after graduation he joined the army where he spent the next 20 years as a diesel mechanic. After retiring in 1990, he returned to Kern County and went to work for Freightliner. The only thing he enjoyed as much as getting dirty under the hood of a motor vehicle was wood working, and he spent countless hours crafting gifts and furniture for family and friends. After a long illness, he passed away on November 7, 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Christie Balentine; brother Steve Balentine and wife, Anna; and long-time friend and companion Kathy. He is preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home was held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Bakersfield National Cemetery for Leslie Wayne Balentine, age 58, of Wasco; Pastor Terry Ruddell officiated.
