Hooge
July 3, 1927 – March 1, 2022
Leroy Arnold Hooge passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born to Arthur and Amanda Hooge on July 3, 1927 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. After highschool, Leroy joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, he studied electronics at North Dakota State College of Science. Then he served as a Radio Technician in the Korean War. Leroy received his Bachelor's Degree in Music at UCSB and his Master's Degree at USC. He taught Band and Orchestra at Compton and Emerson Jr. High Schools. While teaching music, he met Helen Schellenberg and was married to her for 25 years, and they had 3 children. He was widowed at age 55 and married his second wife, Opal Little, at age 60. His hobbies were restoring cars and traveling. He enjoyed directing music at his church, performing in the Starlight Theater, playing viola in the Philharmonic Orchestra, playing trombone in the Summer Band, as well as the Veteran Band until 93 years old. He will be lovingly missed by his children Colleen (Steve) Rodriguez, Kevin (Maria) Hooge, and Heidi (Kenny) Secor, and his 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter...and 1 great-granddaughter on the way! There will be a graveside service on Monday, March 7 at 1:00 pm, at Shafter Memorial Park:18662 Santa Fe Way, Shafter, CA 93263.
