Leon C. Newman, M.D., a native of Michigan, an 80-year resident of California and a 20-year resident of Landers, died at home Jan. 30, 2009. He was 91 years old. Born Aug. 3, 1917, he was the son of John Newman and Rose Sacher Newman. He worked in the medical field for 61 years before he retired. Mr. Newman is survived by his wife of 61 years, Olive Newman of Landers; granddaughter Aurianna Lively of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson Peter Newman of Missoula, Mont.; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
