Lena Bessie McCurry April 2, 1926 – January 18, 2010 Lena Bessie McCurry was born in Texas on April 2, 1926 to Jason and Julia Minton. They moved to California and she graduated from McFarland High School. On February 11, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart Paul McCurry. They raised two children in McFarland and she retired from McFarland Unified School District as a cafeteria manager in 1997. In her free time she enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross stitching, and spending time with family. Bessie is preceded in death by her husband Paul, brothers Wiley and Pete, sisters Annie, Eula and Hazel and parents Jason and Julia. She is survived by brother Buddy Minton and wife Betty of Bakersfield, son Paul McCurry and wife Kathy of Bakersfield, daughter Jeri Johnson of Wasco, grandsons Tim McCurry of Wasco, Scott Johnson and wife Rae of Shafter, granddaughter Jennifer Morris and husband Chad of Bakersfield and great-grandchildren Jocelyn and Timmy McCurry, Brandon Johnson, Samantha and Jason Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held Saturday, January 23, at 9:30am at Wasco Memorial Park for Lena Bessie McCurry, age 83, of Wasco who passed away January 18, 2010 in Bakersfield. Pastor Harold Brown of the Spirit Filled Life Center of Bakersfield will officiate the service and interment will follow.
