LaVerne was born on August 1, 1937, to Lottie Grumbles in Merced, California. She went to her eternal rest on March 15, 2022. LaVerne and her two sisters and grandparents made their way down to Shafter where they worked in agriculture. LaVerne loved Shafter and growing up in a small town. After High School, she met the love of her life Jimmy Cole at Nick's Drive Inn. They married in 1958 and continued to live in Shafter and raise their 3 children. She loved bowling with her sister Margie and sister-in-law Betty. You would never see LaVerne without her favorite Birkenstock sandals on her feet. Some of her passions were crocheting, watching "the Golden Girls",and enjoying her nieces, nephews, and grandkids. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband Jim of 53 years who passed 2011. Her sisters Margie Haworth, and Bobbie Zachary. She is survived by her children Scott Cole (Yvonne), Jenny Bishop (Steve), and Pat Cole. Grandkids Sara Johnson (Marc), Tyler Bishop, Amy Fisher (Jon) and Sam Cole. Great-grandkids Stella and Tucker Johnson, Samson Cole. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation in her honor to the American Lung Association. Graveside services will be held at the Shafter Cemetery at 1:00 pm. A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 4-8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter.
