Laura Vaux passed away on April 28, 2014 at the age of 93. She was born on April 16, 1921 in Shafter, California to August and Katharina Bender. She attended school in Shafter from first grade through high school graduating from Shafter High School in 1939. She worked at Stringhams Shafter Drug Store for 23 years. In 1945 she entered the Miss Shafter War Bond contest and came in second in War Bond sales. On February 28, 1947 she married Melvin Vaux of Deluth, Minnesota. They were married for 59 years until his death in October 2006. Her hobbies were crafts and her garden. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Mel, four sisters and five brothers. She is survived by her daughter Janice Taormina and husband Vic; three granddaughters Erin Cobb and husband Brian, Tara Hardy and Kristan Williams; great granddaughter Andi Cobb; two step grandsons Monte, and Trent Taormina ;six step great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins . A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 1pm at the Shafter Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the memorial Fund at Ebenezer Reformed Church.
