Elizabeth Freyberger
January 22, 1926 – March 26, 2017
Laura Dorothy Elizabeth Freyberger was born January 22, 1926 to Laura and Edward Hindman and was later adopted by Lovell Hill. She was raised in the San Fernando Valley. In high school, Laura was very active in all areas of 4-H and enjoyed showing rabbits. She was one of four 4-H Diamond Star selected to represent California in 1944. Laura met Jim Freyberger in 1945 while attending UC Davis and they married on September 2, 1947. They lived in El Toro and Arvin before moving to Buttonwillow in 1950. Twenty years and four children later, Laura went back to school to finish her Bachelors Degree and earned a teaching Credential from Fresno State. She taught 1st grade at Richland Elementary School in Shafter for 22 years and retired in 1987. Laura was a member of Kern County Cattlewomen, Shafter Womens Club, Shafter Lions, and Shafter American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 4-H community and project leader for over 52 years. After retirement, Laura and Jim leased pasture on their daughter Roberta and son-in-law Bobs ranch to start a cow/calf operation in Bly, Oregon. Laura moved to Terrebonne, Oregon in 2014 when her daughter moved the cow/calf operation there. Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years; G.G. (Jim) Freyberger, her sister Louise Baker, Son-in-law Robert (Bob) Valladao, and two great grandchildren Grace and Carter Austin. She is survived by 3 daughters; Keren (Nathan) Meeks, Margaret (Stephen) Levy, Roberta (Bob) Valladao, and son Robert (Carolyn) Freyberger. She has 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Laura was surrounded by family when she went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2017. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Freyberger Memorial Scholarship Fund at Bank of America or your favorite charity. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 2pm at Shafter Memorial Park. A viewing will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4-8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter.
