Larry James McHenry a resident of Bakersfield, CA, retired businessman and US Marine; went to be with the Lord Tuesday May 8th at 9:40 pm after a 10 year struggle with cancer at the age of 73. Larry is survived by his sister and brother; Betty McKenzie and David McHenry, wife; Sharon McHenry, children; Cinda Garza, Kim McHenry and Ryan McHenry, grandchildren; Whittney Galland, Chasity Hall, Nick Telese, Blake McHenry, Anthony Telese and Brandon Garza, great-grandchildren; Caydence Brown, Amelia Galland, Jonah Brown and Elliott Galland. Larry was born December 2nd 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to Lawrence and Wency McHenry. Larry served his country honorably and was a veteran of the Vietnam War as a member of the 3rd Marine Division. He married Sharon Lee Tatum on April 16th, 1965 in Wasco, CA. He graduated from Fresno City College with an Associates degree in business in 1971. Larry was the sole proprietor of Mobile Safety Company of Bakersfield, CA for 28 years. Larry was a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with family. In his leisure time he cherished long motorcycle rides, listening to the rainfall and spending time outdoors. He relished working on car restoration projects and completing projects using his tractor at his home in North Fork, CA. He also enjoyed watching western movies and playing video games on his computer. He was a generous man who gave opportunity to those in need in which he touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched with his great sense of humor and unending love. Funeral services will be held at Peter's Funeral Home 844 E. Lerdo Hwy in Shafter, CA on Thursday May 17th 2018 at 10am-11am. There will be viewing opportunities prior on Wednesday May 16th from 4pm-8pm and prior to the service from 9am-10am. Following the service at Peters, full military honors and graveside service will be given at Bakersfield National Cemetery located at 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd In Arvin, CA at 12:30pm.
