Obituary

Larry was born in Bakersfield, California July 5, 1946 to Gilbert and Pauline Garland. Larry passed away January 31, 2009, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. His wishes were no service. Larry was preceded in death by his mother Pauline, loving step-father Wesley H. Colquitt, his brother Joseph Wayne Garland, and father Gilbert Garland. He is survived by his three sisters, Eunice and Ernie White, of Elfrida, Arizona, Chris and Cleo Brannon, Paula and Don Johnson; brother Gil and Janice Garland, all of Wasco. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews, 30 great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces, with one more due in June. Larry was a favorite uncle of all his nieces and nephews. He loved to tease and teach them funny things to show their parents and friends. Larry loved his fantasy basketball, his many travels to different places around the world and his vegetable garden, which no one could match. Larry was proud of his Choctaw Heritage and wore his Choctaw shirt with pride. He will be missed by his life long friends Bill McDonald of Wasco, Tim Gilmer of Oregon and Mike Gilmer of Shafter. He also leaves behind all of his special working family at Frito Lay. Larry graduated from Wasco High School in 1964 and started college in Long Beach when drafted by the Army and served in Vietnam. After discharge he worked for the Forestry Service, in food production in Oregon for twenty years and the last eight years has been an employee of Frito Lay. He was an avid non-fiction reader. We will all miss him The family would like to thank all the nurses at mercy Hospital, Life House Health, Odyssey Hospice, who made his last days more comfortable. A memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Cancer Society or Odyssey Hospice.
