LaQuinta J. Van Wyngaarden, a community volunteer who lived in Yucca Valley 35 years, died Dec. 14, 2008, at home. She was 74 years old. The daughter of Elzie J. Fridley and Iva F. Sweazy-Cestola, Mrs. Van Wyngaarden was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Robson, W.Va. She was married to Johannes P. Van Wyngaarden for 41 years before his death in January 2007. Stepson Gary Van Wyngaarden preceded her in death in January 2008. Mrs. Van Wyngaarden is survived by daughter and son-in-law Donna and William Leep of Yucca Valley, daughter Nancy A. Hodge of Yucca Valley, son Frank P. Lowrie of Yucca Valley, stepsons John Van Wyngaarden of Oxnard and Roger Van Wyngaarden of Catonsville, Md., six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A homemaker, she volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a Cub Scout troop leader. She was secretary for N.A.R.F.E. and a director on the board of Morongo Basin Unity Home. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 56300 Twentynine Palms Highway, Suite 105, Yucca Valley, CA 92284, or to the American Heart Association or National Breast Cancer Association.
