Kevin Maurice Bergman, 57, of Shafter, California, went to heaven on December 14, 2012. He was born in Bakersfield on April 9, 1955, to Robert and Ella Bergman. Kevin graduated from Maple School and Shafter High School. Then he continued his education at Cal State Bakersfield but his commitment to the family farm prevented him from completing his degree. Kevin worked on the farm until 1988, then pursued other careers in agriculture, construction, and law enforcement. Kevin was a Lieutenant in the Kern County Sheriff Reserve for 15 years, honored as Reserve of the Year in 1987. It was through the reserves that he met his loving wife. He married Elaine Schellenberg on July 11, 1980, and this year they celebrated their 32nd anniversary in San Diego. A long-time volunteer for the Salvation Army, Shafter, Kevin also spent many years coaching his children's sports, ushering at church, and encouraging his many e-mail friends with inspirational and thoughtful messages. Preceded in death by his dad, Robert, in 1982, Kevin is survived by his wife Elaine, children Kenneth, Desiree, and Valaree, mother, Ella, sister Sandy Armstrong and family, brother Randy and family, and a host of friends and extended family members. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 at 11 am at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church.
