IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen "Kat"
Quary
August 7, 1932 – December 27, 2019
Bonnie Kathleen Martin was born in Lavaca, Arkansas on August 7, 1932. She was the middle child of Ila Mabel Martin and Jewell Otis Martin. As with many dustbowl families, they migrated to California in the 1940's. As a child, she and her family lived in encampments and followed jobs to harvest seasonal crops. Kathleen met and married Jewell Leslie Quary in 1948. They were married 53 years before he passed away in 2001. During their 53 years of marriage, they had 7 children. Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Kathy Lackey, Linda Conklin, Ann Boles, Gail Pierucci, Janette Quary, and her son Roger Quary. Her son Ron Quary preceeded her in death. The family resided in Buttonwillow, where they co-owned and operated the Post Office Market. Following a move to Fellows to run another grocery store, they returned back to Buttonwillow before retiring years later in Bakersfield. Kathleen enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. She loved playing cards, shopping, crafting, gardening, cooking, playing the slot machines and spending time with grandchildren. She had a soft spot for babies and all the grandchildren always gravitated to "Nana." She is survived by 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces, Jami Martin-Westbrook and Jennifer Quick and their families. The family is requesting donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
