IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen S.
Long
July 9, 1953 – September 17, 2008
Kathy went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2008. She was born in Madera, CA to Elwood (Woody) and Alice Justin. Kathy attended school in Madera, graduating from high school in 1971. After high school, Kathy and her dog (Heather) ventured out on several different "excursions". From teaching day care in Mission Viejo to working in the cafeteria at El Toro Marine Base. She went to work at 11-C Market in Taft, CA in 1973, where she met her soon to be husband, Bob. Kathy and Bob were married on February 14, 1974. A couple of years later, they moved to Shafter, CA where she started a new chapter in her life as a wife and mother. Lovingly and successfully raising their 3 girls, Tisha, Kari, and Lisa. The family became active members of Valley Bible Church in Shafter, where Kathy was involved in AWANAs, SuperGang, Vacation Bible School, choir, teaching Sunday School, and many other ministries. When the kids got a little older, Kathy went back to work where she enjoyed many years of working for Dr. Groves, until 2004 when she was first diagnosed with cancer. The Lord allowed us to enjoy 4 more years with Kathy until he called her home. Kathy was preceded in death by her father Elwood Justin. She is survived by her mother Alice Justin of Fresno, CA; husband Bob Long; daughters Tisha Long, Kari Zachary and husband David, and Lisa Rodriguez who reside in Bakersfield, CA; sisters Chris Justin, Karen Chamberlin and husband Kevin, who reside in Fresno, CA; grandchildren Taylor Long, Courtney Zachary, Caleb Rodriguez, Ryan Zachary, and Isaiah Villalpondo, all of Bakersfield, CA; and many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. We want to thank Dr. Shambaugh and the entire staff at CBCC for their part in adding 4 more great years to Kathy's time here on earth, and Hoffmann Hospice for making Kathy's last few hours with us pain free and peaceful. The family is asking that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 AM on Monday, September 22, at the Shafter Cemetery with a memorial celebration of Kathy's life to follow at 11 AM, at Valley Bible Church in Shafter, CA.
