Obituary

Katherine "Kay" Bann was born on July 28, 1934, and went to heaven on September 8, 2021, in a local hospital due to complications of COVID-19. She was 87 years old. Katherine was born to Stephen and Eleanor Roberts. She had 3 sisters and 1 brother. She grew up in Shafter, CA attending Shafter schools and graduating from Shafter High School in 1952. After graduation she met and married Collins Crosby. Together they had three children, Diane, Randall and Beverly, whom they raised in Wasco, CA. While her children were young she went to work for Drs. Freeman and Kodet in Shafter as an office nurse. She was also very active in the Shafter Junior Women's Club traveling the state as a speaker since she always had the gift of gab and loved people. She then went to work for a local radio station KWSO where she met and married Robert Bann. They were avid golfers and traveled to different golf courses and campgrounds around the state until it became too hard for her to walk the course. She was married to Robert for 25 years until he passed in 1998. Katherine worked for San Dimas Medical Group/Birth Center for approximately 30 years until her retirement in 2000. She then met her companion Richard Alenbaugh and gained another family who she was very close to and fond of. Upon Richard's passing she lived alone until moving in with her daughter Beverly. Katherine never met a stranger due to her outgoing friendly personality. You always knew she was present since was always singing and laughing. She had a beautiful voice and a loud contagious laugh. She had a very quick wit and was always joking with everyone. She loved her many many cats and fed every stray around. She collected pigs and had hundreds throughout her house that family and friends had gifted her. She was an avid golfer and loved the game. Katherine had many friends and had a special group of ladies she had known since high school that she called her "Shafter lunch bunch". She loved her outings with the group and remained close to all of them. Katherine enjoyed crossword puzzles, trivia, playing along with TV game shows and gardening. Katherine brought joy to every room she entered and will always be remembered for her loud contagious laugh and beautiful voice and smile. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Pete Heinz, both her husbands, her companion Richard, her daughter Diane Crosby, her son Randall Crosby, her sisters Carolyn Bradshaw and Susie Harris-Story and her brother Timothy Roberts. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Aguirre, son-in-law John Aguirre, sister Cheryl Richardson (Larry), sister-in-law Dorothy Hoffman, her grandchildren Crystal Hudgins (Terry), Lisa Salgado (Patrick), Joseph Aguirre (Holli), Matthew Aguirre, Michael Aguirre (Stephanie), Brianna Crosby, Tara Crosby, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, very special friends Betty Adams, Norma Hinsley, Joyce Rice and Mae Saw, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Shafter Memorial Cemetery on October 8, 2021, at 2:00 pm.
