Juvencio G. Pena was born September 26, 1939 in Edcouch, Texas. He was the sixth child of 12 born to Jose l. and Maria G. Pena. He passed away peacefully with his three children around him on Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Bakersfield. He was born and raised in Texas and in 1958 the family moved to California. In 1961, his family moved to Wasco where in his early 20's he did what he loved, driving a truck in the sugar beets, onions, among other seasonal crops. At age of 26 he married Erma Espericueta on July 31, 1965. They continued to reside in Wasco where they started their family and raised Janie, Ray and Robert Pena. Juvencio began his employment as an oilfield mechanic with Belridge Oil, which turned into Kernridge Oil which later turned to Shell Oil. He was the first minority to be employed at the company. He retired from Shell Oil in his early 50's. Upon his retirement he continued to do seasonal work during sugar beet season with McCaslin trucking driving a tractor and continuing his mechanic work, where he continued to work up until his late 60's. Juvencio enjoyed the simple life upon his retirement. He was often heard saying ``My duty is one. I've raised my three kids.'' Being with family and friends, barbecuing, playing cards and talking about old times. He loved his family so much and would do anything for them. He taught them the value of working and standing for what you believe in, being proud and independent. Juvencio is survived by daughter Janie and husband Raymond Martinez, son Ray and wife Robbin, son Robert and wife Sarah. Also, the loves of his life his grandchildren: Raymond Martinez III, Angelina Gorman, Brooke Pena, Chelsey Pena, Brent Martinez, Taylor Pena, Robert Pena Jr and his one and only great-grandbaby Olivia Mae Gorman. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Mage Pena Los Banos, CA, Melida Reyna Shafter, Matilda Reyna Santa Clara, Marie Salinas La Joya, TX, Cathy Sherrill Bakersfield, CA, Sylvia Burke Lexington, Mass.; Jose Pena Weslaco, TX, Lupe Pena Shafter and Domingo Pena; and numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Jesus Chuy Pena and Manuela Gonzalez. Visitation was Monday, November 21, 2011, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was Tuesday, November 22, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at St. Therese's Church in Shafter followed by interment at Shafter Memorial Park.
