June Ann Nikkel went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 15, 2009. She was born January 26, 1929 and passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Los Olivos. June met her husband, Jack, at Bakersfield College and they were happily married for fifth-six years. Their son, Donald R. Nikkel passed away in 1978. Jack passed away in February of 2007. June is lovingly remembered in Shafter as the "Cookie Lady" to many local families. She received an award from the Shafter Chamber of Commerce for her community service. June served faithfully along side her husband at Valley Bible Church, Shafter Historical Society and as volunteers for HCJB Global Technology Center in Elkhart, Indianan. June is survived by her sister, Beverley Echenique; daughter, Janet and son-in-law- Mike; daughter-in-law, Nancy; grandchildren, Nicole, Deborah and her husband Jonathan and Joanne and her husband Jason; and great-grandchildren Caleb and Cassidy. In lieu of flowers, June requested that donations be made to the HCJB Global Technology Center, 2830 17th Street, Elkhart, IN 46517 or the Valley Bible Church, Missions Fund, 350 Pine St., Shafter, CA 93263 A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 11am at Shafter Valley Bible Church. Pastor Mike Polley will officiate the service. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 18 from 2pm to 8pm.
