Juan M. Lopez was the only child born to Teodula (Moreno) and Estevan Lopez on March 30, 1915 in Durango, Mexico. He moved to Texas where he met Flavia Perez and they married December 20, 1942. Two days later he moved to California to find work and later sent for his family. Juan worked in agriculture all his life providing for his family. He was always making people laugh and the family enjoyed his stories of "way-back when". Last year when Juan turned 96 he received his automatic renewal for his driver's license, but voluntarily decided not to renew. Instead he rode his scooter all over town. The townspeople and neighbors noticed when they missed seeing him and knew his health must be failing. His smiling face will be missed my many. Juan was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Flavia Perez Lopez on November 29, 2003; sons, Fernando and Ruben; daughter, Maria Isabel; and three grandchildren, Alice Lopez, Marcos Garcia and Armando Lopez. Juan loved his child and grandchildren and is survived by his sons, Jose (Olimpia) Lopez, Estevan (Lupe) Lopez, Ricardo (Lydia) Lopez, Juan (Carmen) Lopez, Alejandro (Teresa) Lopez, Ramiro (Jackie) Lopez; daughters, Josefina (Ventura) Arvizo, Raquel (Adan) Gutierrez and Diana (Lupe) Garcia; daughter-in-law, Griselda Lopez; 34 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 21 great, great-grandchildren. Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, December 27, at 6pm at St. Therese's Catholic Church for Juan M. Lopez, age 97, of Shafter who passed away at home on December 23, 2012. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 28 at 10am at St. Therese's. Fr. Pedro Umana will officiate and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
