Obituary

Joseph Anthony Karam was born October 24, 1929 in Utica, New York, to Michael and Nazero (Habuk) Karam. Joseph lived in Bakersfield, California, for over 60 years and worked for the City of Bakersfield in Public Works for 32 years. Joseph never married but treated his niece and nephews as if they were his own, taking them on many camping and fishing trips. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Nazero Karam, and by brothers John and Louis Karam. He is survived by his sister Helen and husband Fred Landucci of Bakersfield, and brother George Karam of Rhode Island. Aside from his family, his two great loves were his church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was involved with Scouts for over 30 years, becoming an Eagle Scout and attending many jamborees. He received the Silver Beaver award for his dedication and involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Joseph was very involved at his church and attended Mass daily while health permitted, and was active in the Knights of Columbus also. Where ever and whenever there was a need made known whether at church or with the Scouts, Joseph made himself available to serve. His friendship and loyalty to his family and church will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 19, 2011, at 1:00PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18, from 3 PM to 7 PM with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 PM, at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary.
