Jose Navarrette was born August 4, 1933 in Sinaloa, Mexico to Pilar (Fierro) and Gumercindo Navarrette. He came to Kern County in 1964 and started working in the agriculture fields immediately, then became an irrigator for 33 years until he retired. Jose loved his family and comforted them immensely when his beloved wife passed away, leaving him to care for his daughter; they became inseparable from that point forward. Jose had a bicycle accident that caused him to be comatose for five years in Los Angeles County. Jose Rosario Navarrette was preceded in death by his loving wife, Berta (1991); he is survived by his loving and caring daughter Maria Escobedo and her two children Ismael and Diego Escobedo of Bakersfield; a large extended family and dear friends. 10am Mass of the Resurrection was officiated by Father John Schmoll at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lamont, CA on Monday, July 18, 2011 with interment immediately following at South Kern Cemetery District. Visitation was held Sunday, July 17th at Arvin Funeral Home from 4 to 8pm.
