Jose (Joe) Contreras of Bakersfield passed away January 9, 2012, at the age of 80 with his devoted family at his side. Jose was born in Calexico , CA, on May 23, 1931, to Pedro and Loretta Contreras. He was the 2nd of 10 children. Jose is survived by his loving wife Ana of 59 years, his four daughters, Delores Patricio, Susie Robinson (Mike), Joann Lara (Frank), Diann Oliver (Demont) all of Bakersfield, CA. Jose was the Grandfather to 10 and a great-grandfather to 25. Also surviving are his two sister Mary Martinez of Holtville, Gloria Carlos of Arvin, and four brothers, Charles and Robert of Arvin and Pete and John of Bakersfield. Jose is preceded in death by his parents and brothers David and Frank. Jose had a tremendous love for baseball. He especially loved the Angels and enjoyed visiting the Big A Stadium. We will miss Jose's play by play after every game. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, at Saint Thomas Catholic Church from 4 to 6 PM, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 13, 2012, at Saint Thomas Catholic Church at 10 AM. Pallbearers will be Rico Patricio, Nicholas Patricio, Joseph Cisneros, Oscar Garcia, Isaac Garcia, Todd Whitson, Mike Robinson, and Frank Lara. Honorary Bearers are Carlos VanTessel, Ian Vantassel, and Santos Noriega. Jose requested that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County in lieu of Flowers.
