Jose "Joe" Martinez Lopez March 20, 1925 – January 3, 2011 Jose Martinez Lopez was born March 20, 1925 in Lawson, Texas to Marcos (Martinez) and Julio Lopez. The family moved to California first to Kings County in the Corcoran area then settling in Shafter in 1965. Joe worked for Santa Fe Railroad as trackman for 32 years retiring 1988. Joe met Consuelo Castro in Corcoran and they married in 1950. Consuelo preceded him in death in 1992 and he was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Isabel Lopez and Tanillo Lopez. He loved being at home, working in the garden, visiting friends and traveling to Texas to see family. Joe is survived by his daughters, Sandra Martinez and husband Frank, Guadalupe Vasquez, Carmen Prendez, all of Shafter, Connie Lopez and husband Albert of Bakersfield; sons, Joe Lopez, Jr. of Bakersfield, Julio Lopez and wife Susan of Maricopa and David Lopez of Bakersfield; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 6 at 7pm at Peters Funeral Home for Jose Lopez, age 85, who passed away January 3, 2011 at his home in Shafter. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said Friday, January 6, at 10am at St. Therese's Church and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
