Jose Angel Contreras was born August 8, 1963 in Bakersfield to Jose and Maria Luisa Contreras. He grew up in Lamont and attended Lamont elementary schools and Arvin High School. He worked all his life as a mechanic and in auto salvage. He worked for Payless Auto Wrecking, American Auto Wrecking and A-1 Auto Wrecking in Bakersfield and Simpson Auto Wrecking in Lamont. Angel also owned Down and Dirty Automotive. He loved to help everybody and would give you the shoes off his feet if you needed help. Angel is survived by his son, Angel Contreras of Bakersfield; daughters, Alicia Rodriquez of Santa Ana, Maria Luisa Contreras & husband Jesus Ramos, Jr. stationed in Japan, and Misty Ann Contreras of Bakersfield; brothers, Hugh Contreras and wife Lisa of Lamont and Eroquillo Contreras of Bakersfield; sisters, Maria de Los Angeles Esparza and husband Rudolfo, Gloria C. Ruiz and husband Roberto and Rosa Madrid and husband Hector, all of Bakersfield and Liana Onsurez of Oregon; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded death by his parents, grandson, Jonathan Bernal, niece Clarissa Contreras and nephew Roberto Ruiz, Jr. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 10 at 10am at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary, Lamont for Jose Angel Contreras who passed away September 2, 2007 in Lamont. Interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery, Arvin.
