Obituary

John Huston Scarbrough was born April 2, 1920 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Celia May (Coughran) and William Jackson Scarbrough. He moved to California in 1937 and served his country in the US Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged he began his career as a civil servant at China Lake Naval Weapons Center as an ordinance Handler retiring after thirty years of service. Huston was a faithful member of the Arvin Assembly of God Church. He worked as an usher with his wife Louise for many years and served as Deacon. Huston had a servant's heart and helped with the Royal Rangers or anywhere else he was needed. Huston passed from this life February 17, 2011. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Louise, who he adored and a daughter, Margie; sister, Faith Embrey; brothers, Sylvester, Edgar, Luther, Leonard, Warren and J.D. Huston is survived by one son, John Earl Scarbrough and wife Harlean; two step-sons, Lynn Coday and wife Mary and Michael Coday and wife Connie; granddaughter Rhonda Fisher and husband John of Ridgecrest; great-granddaughter, Ashley and husband Jared Sparks; grandson, Jackie Scarbrough and wife Carin; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Dollie Ward of Bakersfield; two brothers, Jack Scarbrough of Grover Beach and Harvey Scarbrough of Bakersfield; and many loving nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 23 at 10am at the Arvin Assembly of God Church for John Huston Scarbrough who passed away February 17, 2011 at home. Pastor Brian Overturf will officiate the service and interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery, Arvin. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 22 from 2pm to 8pm at Arvin Funeral Home.
