Obituary

John F. Roskam, Jr. was born to Meta and John Franklin Roskam as the twelfth born of their 14 children and spent his childhood on the family farm in Wasco. He graduated from Wasco Union High School in 1950 and served in the Army during the Korean conflict as a member of the Military Police stationed in Germany. He worked for many years for S. A. Camp Company as a Cotton Gin Manager in several different facilities in the Valley. John was the happiest when he was outdoors. He loved spending time in his garden whether it was creating a beautifully manicured yard or growing vegetables. John also liked spending his free time lake and stream fishing and was always ready for dove hunting season to start when he could hang out with his crew of extended family and their traditional opening day activities. Vacations were often spent either camping in the mountains or relaxing on the coast. When he spent time indoors, he was an avid reader of Western novels and never tired of putting his jigsaw puzzles together. He was a long-time member of the Shafter Congregational Bible Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was relied upon by many when something needed to be repaired or installed since he seemed to know how to fix almost anything. He is survived by LaVina, his wife of over 50 years; two daughters (Janet and Susan) and a stepson (David) as well as 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2PM on Saturday, December 20th at the Shafter Congregational Bible Church.
