Obituary

JOHN ENGLAND PHILLIPS OCTOBER 23, 1953-MAY 7, 2007 John England Phillips was born on Oct. 23, 1953, in Bakersfield, CA. – the first son born to Zane and Lily Phillips. He spent his entire youth in Wasco, graduating from Wasco Union High School in 1971. His young adulthood was spent in the construction trade. After attending Butte Jr. College and acquiring a certificate in drug and alcohol counseling (CADC), John became a licensed Drug Counselor, a profession he considered his calling. In this field he excelled and was held in high esteem by his clients and co-workers. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Minerva England; paternal grandparents, John and Vada Phillips and an infant sister, Gari Kathleen Phillips. He is survived by his parents, Zane and Lily Phillips of Tehachapi; his life partner, Margaret Phillips of Sacramento; older sisters, Stephanie Reviea of McFarland and Rebecca Gomes of Fresno; twin sister, Jane Peterson England of Bakersfield and a younger brother, Scott Phillips of Tehachapi. He is also survived by 5 nephews, 4 nieces and a brotherhood of dear friends. Visitation was held at Peters Funeral Home, 1401 7th St., Wasco, on May 11th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. A funeral service was held on May 12th at 10:30 a.m. Interment followed at Wasco Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Bakersfield Rescue Mission, 212 21st St., 93301. "John, although our hearts ache with sorrow, we are joyful that you are in a better place. Until we meet again – Your loving family".
