Obituary

John Walter Coyle, age 78, died Feb. 14, 2009, in Joshua Tree. Mr. Coyle was born in Oak Park, Ill., on Dec. 14, 1930, and moved with his family at an early age to Lynwood. He worked as a plumber's superintendent in Los Angeles, retiring in 1993 from Plumber's Local 78. After retirement, he moved permanently from Huntington Beach to the home he built in Landers. Family describe Mr. Coyle as a one-of-a-kind man who was loved and admired by many. In his youth, he was a professional race car driver, racing sports cars at Pike's Peak and Ontario Speedway. He loved the ocean and being out in nature. Most evenings, he could be found sitting on his back porch feeding and watching the desert wildlife. Mr. Coyle was preceded in death by his parents, Emmet and Mary Coyle, and his brother, Patrick Coyle. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ina Coyle, and his children and their spouses, Robert and Helena Coyle of Irvine, Peggy and David O'Neill of Klamath, Danny and Kathy Coyle of Hawaii, Rick Jackson of Seattle, Wash., and Terry Jackson of Newport Beach; his grandchildren. Joseph and Carrie O'Neill, Jessica O'Neill, Sean O'Neill, Britney Jackson, Danielle Coyle and Bowen Coyle; his great-grandchildren, David O'Neill, Alex Carter and baby Evelyn O'Neill, born Feb. 13, 2009. According to his wishes, no funeral services will be held. Instead, the family will schedule a celebration of Mr. Coyle's life at the Moose Lodge.
