Obituary

John Acosta was born July 25, 1936 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado to Dolores (Martinez) and Hipolito Acosta. John married Margaret Ann Crona on December 21, 1966 in Denver Colorado. He attended Ft. Morgan High in Colorado, joined the US Army where he served his country. He then attended Sterling Jr. College and Colorado State College, received his B.A in 1965 from Colorado State, Masters from Fresno State University in 1969 and his Doctorate work at University of Pacific. He and Margaret came to Shafter in 1966. John taught at various schools, Shafter High, CSUB, McFarland High, BHS and his last 13 years at Wasco High. He was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, enjoyed traveling, reading and camping. He was a happy outgoing man who lived for his granddaughters. John was a generous teacher, who always made time for his students. He was recognized numerous times for his efforts with high school students. John was a loving husband to Margaret for 41 years; loving dad to Scott Acosta and wife LeAnn of Sacramento and Christopher Acosta of Bakersfield; loving grandpa to Jocelyn and Lauren; he is also survived by brothers Robert, Felix and wife Marlene; sister Mary Mendoza all of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents Dolores and Hipolito, twin daughters Lisa & Theresa; brothers Manuel and Paul; sister Cleo Mendoza. A Rosary and Mass Combination for John Acosta, age 71, of Shafter will be held Monday, June 16 at 10am at St. Therese's. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 15 from 2-8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's name to the American Cancer Society.
